From October 31, 2006 to November 4, 2006 and from December 1-8, 2006, VEF organized study tours to Germany and to the United States, respectively, as part of the "Project to Establish a World Class University in Vietnam", for a Vietnamese delegation of ten project team members led by the Minister of Education and Training of Vietnam, Dr. Nguyen Thien Nhan.
The purpose of the study tours was three-fold: (1) to study different top-tier universities in a variety of countries in order to decide the most suitable model for Vietnam; (2) to learn from the experiences of other successful top level international universities; and (3) to get advice and input for the Feasibility Study from leading experts in academia from around the world.
While in Germany the delegation toured the campuses and met with senior administrators and faculty of the International University of Bremen and the University of Bremen, as well as met with Bremen city officials. In the United States, the delegation spent time meeting with the National Academies, the U.S. Departments of Education and State, as well as faculty and senior administrators of Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Rice University and the University of Texas at Houston.
