January 6, 2005--VEF announced today that a record number of applicants have registered during its current open application season. During the first five days since the opening of our online application on January 1, 2005, we have received more than 600 registered applicants, a record for VEF, said VEF Executive Director Mr. Kien Pham. VEF anticipates maintaining the current rate of online registration (more than 100 per day) and receiving well in excess of last years 1,500 applications. In addition, hits to VEF's website have more than doubled since the launch of the application season. Clearly, awareness of and interest in VEF continues to grow as demand for U.S. graduate education in Vietnam remains high and VEF Fellows have gotten into the best universities in the U.S., noted Mr. Pham.
The open application season, which commenced on January 1, 2005 and continues through January 28, 2005, is the first step in the process of selecting the most talented young scholars in Vietnam to continue their studies in the U.S. The fellowship application and selection, carried out entirely online via the VEF website, is an open, competitive and transparent process that will culminate with oral exams in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in June 2005.
VEF now counts more than 100 Fellows studying at top universities such as MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, UIUC and Michigan in a wide range of science and technology fields, including mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, engineering, and computer science.
